EU DESTINATION GUIDE

Working in an EU country with a foreign qualification

Choose your destination, then follow the EU starting steps and find its national assistance centre. Your qualification country and nationality can lead to different procedures.

1. Find the body responsible for your profession

Search the official EU guidance using your destination and exact professional title. A national assistance centre can help you find the regulator and understand the recognition route.

2. Match the procedure to your qualification

EU professional recognition rules apply to you

Ask the regulator which recognition procedure fits your profession and whether your work will be temporary or permanent. Some professions have sector-specific rules; do not assume that every qualification is automatically accepted.

A qualification obtained outside the EU

National recognition rules can apply. Ask the destination's authority which procedure and evidence it requires. Recognition in another country does not by itself establish your right to practise in this destination.

3. Confirm your work rights

EU citizens generally do not need a work permit in another EU country. Check residence and professional registration separately.

4. Keep your preparation checklist

Your checklist progress is saved on this device only.

Official starting sources checked on 27 October 2026. Confirm requirements with the body responsible for your profession, nationality and qualification.
